2807. The mechanic

To each their own. Angus had never expected to be bowled over by Franciska showing him through her little car maintenance business. She didn’t sell gas; she simply fixed cars – one at a time. And she was good at it. People trusted her with their car more than those big car-fix-it places with twenty-nine mechanics trying to bleed you dry. But Franciska was efficient and delightful, and Angus was bowled over.

He had simply popped in to ask if she sold anti-freeze for his radiator and she ended up showing him through her business venture. He was slightly caught off guard and utterly enamoured by her knowledge and competence. In fact, it took him only two days to realize that the rubber casing around his back left hand passenger door had come loose and needed fixing.

Oh! Even though she was busy Franciska could fix it immediately. It won’t take long; just a bit of glue. “And while we’re waiting for it to dry would you like to join me in a cup of coffee?”

Angus found quite a lot wrong with his car over the following weeks before he mustered up the courage to ask Fanciska out on a date. Of course she said yes. “I don’t know why you took so long,” she said.

“I didn’t like to throw a spanner in the works,” said Angus. “You’re so good at what you do.”

“Never fear,” said Franciska. “I’m just as impressed with you and your florist shop.”
