2803. A disappointing story, story-wise

When Florence’s husband died the funeral expenses were crippling. They simply hadn’t saved enough over the years to warrant having extra trimmings. Just a few thoughts shared in the funeral parlour and then off to the crematorium. Florence would have liked a full burial and some lovely flowers and so on. Then a miracle happened. There was an envelope in her mail box full of cash, and a note that said: “Something to help you out at this time!”

Florence changed the funeral plans hurriedly, and a lovely funeral was “enjoyed” by all.

Florence didn’t know who to thank. So many people had shown kindnesses over the mourning period. Then disaster struck. There was a knock on the door. A man Florence had never seen before stood there. He explained that his son had just begun to attend university and he thought Florence’s mailbox was his son’s. He had inadvertently given her the money. Was there anything that could be done?

Florence explained that she had already spent the money on her husband’s funeral. The man was lovely. He simply said that he was glad he was able to help someone out in their time of need. He was rich enough for it to not matter. Florence offered to pay the man back over time.

The man said “Don’t be silly!” and left. Florence never saw him again until she went to meet her daughter’s future parents-in-law. What a surprise they all got!
