It is an encouraging motto; a positive adage. It means a new leaf has been turned over. It’s the start of something different. It’s full of hope and expectation.
But when my counsellor said “Today is the first day of the rest of your life,” I found it really depressing. He shook my hand and said, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” And then he left.
I should never have done that murder.
