In our day it wasn't so perfectly manicured. |
Marist Fathers’ Novitiate, ‘Highden’, Private Bag, Palmerston Nth. Sat. 1st March ’69. Dear Mum & Dad, This is just a short note because I’ve got permission to write to Francie & we don’t get much time. On Tuesday night we go into retreat for ten days. I’m not really looking forward to it, but will be pleased when I have done it. It is called a “Purgative Retreat” – the first of 4. It requires a “conversion”. He big question is to decide whether or not to allow God to rule our lives completely – undivided love, unlimited trust & unconditional submission. I know this sounds all holy but it is what the retreat is for! It’s a hard thing to do because up to now we’ve been “getting holy” for ourselves, & now we have to do it for God. We’ve known for a long time that we’d have to do it but we don’t want to do it yet!! It’s really harder than deciding to come to the Seminary. Well, that’s what the Retreat’s all about. Love from Bruce P.S. I won’t be able to write next week – Retreat. Bruce |
