What is the Musical About?

This highly popular musical is about 30 minutes long. It has often been performed by smaller children for their parents and grandparents.

The plot is drawn from a traditional Eastern Europe folk story. A group of simple farmers discover a pumpkin, but do not know what it is. They ask the mayor of the town who declares it to be an elephant's egg. They sit on it, to hatch it out. It does not hatch, so they roll it down a hill. It frightens a rabbit which they think is the baby elephant.
