Even though his parents were very rich, Jasper and his three friends wanted to buy an old, battered van and set out on a road trip. It would be an adventure of a life time. The parents didn’t mind. They knew the boys had enough maturity to be sensible. They hadn’t gone more than a few miles when one of them opened the glove compartment and discovered a map. It was an old parchment and looked like it had been drawn by hand. There were a few place and road names, some wiggly lines, and a note that said “Here it is!” Why not try to find the “Here it is!” Perhaps it’s a treasure or something precious. The names seemed to be several hundred miles away. They headed in that direction. The first town named was very small and almost deserted. They followed the road. The second town was equally small and almost empty of people. By now they were in the middle of nowhere. It was all rocks and scrub. The “Here it is!” position seemed to mean they would have to walk a little bit. They left the van. Just behind some gigantic boulders was a derelict house. The house was falling down and rotten. There was a note pinned to what was once the door. It read, “Here it is! You are being watched!” A week later, when the boys failed to return at the allotted time, the parents informed the police. Nothing was ever found; neither the van nor the boys. Several years later Jasper’s parents was arrested on multiple charges of murder. Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
