3230. Chained in

This story happened at the Charlotte Airport, North Carolina, many years ago.

I had parked my old car at one of the airport car parks and left to go where ever I was flying to. The return flight was delayed, but I arrived back at Charlotte about 11 pm and proceeded to the car park. The car park entrance was chained up. I returned to the airport terminal to ask what do I do but the doors wouldn’t open. The airport had shut down for the night.

I returned to the car park. There was an elderly man there, quite calm but perplexed nonetheless. He had a very expensive looking car. I don’t remember what it was but it was dark green. He asked, “What’ll we do?”

“Look,” I said, “my car’s old and another scratch is not going to hurt it. I’ll push the chain and hopefully the holding post will topple over. Then you can follow me out.”

It all worked like a charm, and the elderly gentleman followed me out, tooting his horn in appreciation as he left.

Oh! It was all on camera wasn’t it! I was hauled to court.

You’ll never guess who the judge was. And he didn’t recuse himself although he did ask if I remembered seeing anyone else at the parking lot!
