Herrick had planned things meticulously. To outline in detail his plans would require pages and pages rivalling the length of “War and Peace”. Enough to say he planned to permanently maim the captain of his rugby team in the rugby clubrooms. Even before doing the dastardly deed he had an alibi. It would appear that he was nowhere near the club rooms at the time. He had carefully manipulated photographs to prove it. He had of course changed the date and time on his camera. He had consulted an expert on camouflage for he needed to leave the rugby clubrooms unseen. Not even the video camera would detect his subtly moving vegetation disguise, and it wasn’t an infrared. Herrick had good reason to permanently maim the captain of his rugby team; he had hoped to be captain himself and they announced that Mervyn was the coach’s captain of choice. With Captain Mervyn gone Herrick could easily slip into the leadership role. The team had all expressed surprise when the current captain was announced. Lonny O’Flaherty said he was tempted to resign from the club altogether over the way Herrick had been treated. In the end Lonny O’Flaherty was convinced to stay. To cut a long story short, Herrick did go to the club rooms when he knew the captain was the sole person there. He didn’t simply maim him; he murdered him because he suddenly realized that the captain would talk about “who done it”. Herrick escaped using his vegetation camouflage. Imagine his pretended shock when he was informed of Captain Mervyn’s murder. The police had no leads whatsoever. Indeed, as has been pointed out, Herrick had planned things meticulously. Come the next sport’s practice and condolences would be expressed, and the new captain would be announced. It was Lonny O’Flaherty. Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
