The beans last season had not been a great crop; and Joshua loved his beans. This year was going to be different. He was going to do things right. The bean seed packet had warned against being too enthusiastic. These seeds must be sown once all danger of frost is over and the soil is warm enough for germination. Last year Joshua had sown far too early, and although there was no frost, germination was slow and haphazard and the plants grew permanently stunted. This year he waited. The weather had warmed up, the ground was at the right temperature, and frosts were a distant memory. Joshua put in three rows of bean seeds. All germinated! Bloody rabbits.
