3018. A challenge

Teenagers Michael and Leanne were great friends. They had been friends since their toddler days. Now they were into the “Girls-are-better-than-boys” phase or “Boys-are-better-than-girls” phase. Michael thought that Leanne was too fussy about things so he planned a competition. They were to write a five thousand word story and they weren’t allowed to press “Save” on the devise they were using. Phones were not permitted. “You save things every couple of minutes when you type,” said Michael. “You’re too fussy.”

Leanne took up the challenge. It was a Saturday, and the story had to be completed – unsaved – by 5pm.

Michael had a friend of a friend. He arranged for the electricity to be switched off at Leanne’s house at 4.30pm; a brief switching off of power. Just enough to make Leanne loose the story on her computer.

What a cheat Michael was. Leanne was no fool. Thank goodness she had borrowed her grandmother’s old manual typewriter.
