3010. We are not alone

Juanita became quite rich overnight. Well, not exactly overnight. The event happened in the early hours of the morning.

Juanita was making herself the first mug of coffee for the day. It was dark outside. The kitchen curtains were not drawn. She had just put a spoonful of sugar in her mug and was about to stir when she looked out the window and apart from her own reflection there was an alien looking back. Needless-to-say she got one heck of a fright, and so possibly did the alien, but it continued to stare right through her. It didn’t move. It didn’t blink. It was green and looked exactly the way science fiction books present aliens. It had huge eyes and a heart-shaped head.

Juanita raced to get her camera. She took six photos in all before the alien disappeared. Because the camera had automatically flashed, all the shots had bright window reflection spots. But there was enough clarity for the alien to be seen.

Juanita wasn’t too sure what to do, so she took the photographs to the newspaper. Knowing the importance of these photographs they paid Juanita an enormous amount for them. Every newspaper in the world published them – at a price. That was the first real proof that we are not alone in the universe. It was one of those extraordinary events in world history that occurs very rarely. There was no going back; we are not alone.

Juanita celebrated her new wealth. As she said to her son: “You make sure you burn every inch of that costume.”
