2890. A true story for Halloween

Trixie and Bathsheba had been great friends for years – ever since their school days of distant memory. They had been invited to a Halloween party.

“I presume we have to get dressed up,” said Bathsheba.

“I presume so,” said Trixie. “How dreadfully awful.”

“I suppose we should hire a costume.” So off they went!

The costume owner was a smarmy, slightly scary man. Neither were surprised that he rented out creepy costumes. They had to be careful not to slip on the oily floor.

But what fun they had trying on things. In the end Trixie settled on being Gruesome the Ghoul and Bathsheba settled on being Ghastly the Ghost. “I wouldn’t have a clue,” said Trixie, “what the difference is between a ghoul and a ghost. We both look much the same.”

“We’ll have these,” said Bathsheba to the smarmy man. But they couldn’t take the costumes off. They had become a ghoul and a ghost - permanently.

The slimy man smiled. His grin was enough to send a chill down every ghostly spine. “Don’t be out after midnight, Ladies,” he said. “Not if I were you.”
