2878. A bit of home cooking

Lois was rather taken by Gary. Gary was a fellow student of Lois at the university. He was good-looking, smart, and courteous. They had been out together three times – each time for a restaurant dinner and a movie.

Lois wanted to impress Gary at how good a wife and mother she could be (even though she was a very liberated, modern person). Next time, come to my apartment and I’ll cook a good, old-fashioned family dinner. Gary was delighted to accept. Home-cooking while at university was one thing he missed.

The evening began. Lois had set the table to perfection. There was a little vase of flowers, and a candle on a crystal stick.

“I was going to make a good old-fashion steak and kidney pie,” said Lois. “But when I turned my back the cat had jumped on the bench and was eating the kidney! You’ll just have to make do with a good old fashion cottage pie.”

Gary was never so relieved in his whole life.
