2769. A very pretty dish

Only a hard-hearted, dyed-in-the-wool cynic would scoff at this story. Eva-Mary was rummaging through some old plates at a second-hand store when she came across a very pretty plate with a picture of a duck on it. She bought it for a song and took it home.

The first thing that happened to the very pretty plate was that it was put in the kitchen sink and washed. Ugh! The plate had been a display plate all its life. It had never been washed before. The dish hated it. It was humiliating to be put in water then dried roughly.

But that wasn’t the end of it. The pretty dish was put in a dark cupboard. The cupboard door was shut, and the poor plate almost screamed. It hated the dark. It was scared silly.

Then something wonderful happened. Eva-Mary had a slice of cake and ate it off the very pretty dish. After that it was about to be put into the dishwasher. The pretty plate had had enough. That was when the dish ran away with the spoon.
