There was this mermaid called Helena. No one liked her much. Even ocean-going sailors were put off by her lack of beauty. I hate to say it, but she was relatively ugly. So what did Helena do? She went to see the Sirens, whose singing voices lure unsuspecting sailors to entrapment in sanctuary island caverns.
The Sirens were happy to help Helena out. They would capture a sailor for her. And they did! He was taken to a grotto. He and Helena were married. There was no way out. He spent the next sixty years in utter misery, and they all lived unhappily ever after.
