2775. God bless this house

When Heather moved into her recently purchased old house it came with most of the furnishings. It had been owned by an old lady that no one knew much about. Her will had said, “My house should be sold to a nice person who hasn’t got a great deal of money and will be kind enough to sell or get rid of my stuff.”

Heather knew the furnishings wouldn’t bring in much, but she contacted a second-hand furniture shop and they took the lot. The only thing Heather kept was a framed piece of embroidery that said “God bless this house”. There were a few cross-stitched squiggles underneath.

“I shall keep this in memory of that kind old lady,” thought Heather.

It wasn’t until several months later that Heather was sitting in an armchair enjoying a nice cup of tea when she looked up. She saw the framed embroidery and realized that the squiggles formed a map of the backyard.

A spot was marked with an X.
