2940. Beau the Cat

Junette: Well Rachel, I’m terribly worried. My cat Beau has gone off his food and is getting thinner and thinner. I took him to the animal doctor and she gave him some medicine, but it seems to have made little difference. I feel so sorry for little Beau. He curls up and sleeps most of the day behind the bedroom door. I suppose it’s dark there. But what a worry. Several days after he began his medication he seemed to improve, but now he’s gone back to his illness. You don’t realize how much a cat means until something like this happens. Every little meow I get up and give him a pat. It is so distressing. I’m worried sick.

Rachel: Oh Junette, how you must love that cat. As the saying goes, get a pet and break your heart. My daughter in Israel has been captured by Hamas and taken away with her three children, my grandchildren. The fourth child was beheaded. I sometimes think he was the lucky one. I don’t know where they are or if they’re dead or alive or if they are being treated cruelly. It makes me sick to think about it.

Junette: Oh good. You must understand what I feel about Beau then.
