2922. The singing wolf
© Bruce Goodman 2 December 2023

This is the third of a week’s retelling of traditional folk tales. Hopefully the stories are not well-known ones. They will be told in my own words, so some details perhaps might be changed a bit here and there. My favourite type of folk tales are the ones that don’t try to teach us all a good lesson!

An elderly couple had five sheep, a horse, and a calf. A wolf came along and sang so beautifully that the old woman said, “Give the wolf a sheep”.

The wolf devoured the sheep and when he got hungry he came back and sang another song. He did this until there were no animals left.

The next time the wolf was hungry he came and ate the old woman.

Only the old man was left, dejected and alone. The wolf came along and sang. The old man said he was tone deaf and shot the wolf.
