Clare was forever boasting about how she had completed a year’s course on organic gardening.

“I don’t know how you manage to grow such glorious vegetables,” said Marion, Clare’s friend. “Your cabbages and cauliflowers are almost twice the size of mine. And yet I follow your instructions on organic gardening to the letter.”

“It’s called green fingers,” said Clare. “Either you have it or you don’t. And I have certainly been blessed with it in abundance.”

“Which is why the town’s Garden Society is coming to your garden next Wednesday to learn how to do it,” reminded Marion.

“Which reminds me…” said Clare.

After Marion had left, Clare went and hid the sprays and bags of fertilizer beneath the floor boards of the garden shed. Those Garden Society people poke their noses into everything.
