What is a List Poem?






A list poem is just that: a list of things. List poems first appeared thousands of years ago, for example Homer’s Iliad has list poems in its lists of Trojan War heroes. In more recent times, Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself and Allen Ginsberg’s Howl are list poems.

A list poem is not is a random list. It can be a list of people, places, things you do, items, ideas. It can rhyme, but doesn’t have to. Repetition is frequently used. Repetition is frequently used.
