2. When sparrows cease to chirp
© Bruce Goodman 1 October 2014

When sparrows cease to chirp and start to sing,
When church bells cease to toll and start to ring,
Ding-a-ling, hey-nonny-no, ding-dong-a-ling,
This poem’s not about not about nonny-no nothing.

When children start to walk and cease to cling,
When pinpricks start to itch and cease to sting,
Ding-a-ling, hey-nonny-no, ding-dong-a-ling,
This poem’s not about not about nonny-no nothing.

When jonquils cease to die and start to spring,
When fledglings cease to sit and start to wing,
Ding-a-ling, hey-nonny-no, ding-dong-a-ling,
This poem’s not about not about nonny-no nothing.

Angst is fine in a rhyme if you’re not a schmuck.
But look at mine! It’s happy and sucks.
Ding-a-ling, hey-nonny-no, ding-dong-a-ling,
This poem’s all about all about nonny-no nothing.
