In 1868 Stowlangtoft was described as a parish in the hundred of Blackbourn, county Suffolk, 2½ miles S.E. of Ixworth, its post town, and 2 N. of the Thurston railway station. The church, dedicated to St. George, was built in 1370, and contains several carved stalls and monuments of the D'Ewes family. The church stands on the site of an ancient camp, near which Roman coins were found in 1764.
