In 1868 Edgeworth was described as a parish in the hundred of Bisley, county Gloucester, 5 miles N.W. of Cirencester, its post town and nearest railway station, and 6 E. of Stroud. The surface is hilly, and the soil a light clay, alternated with stone brask. The village, which is small, is situated within 1½ mile of the Thames and Severn canal. Stone is quarried for building purposes.
