SCRIMSHAW

The origins of the family name Scrimshaw can be traced back to the middle ages and literally means Fencing Master. Fencing masters were legally named as rogues and vagabonds and classed with stage players, gypsies and other undesirable characters. Despite this, the authorities turned a blind eye on fencing schools and fencing masters.
