Joyce Gladwin and her daughter Janet

Joyce Gladwin was married to Frederick Lightoller in Auckland on 11 September 1885. Joyce's daughter Janet was born around 1883 in Manchester, England. Frederick had arrived on the Doric in February 1885. The marriage details give Frederick's residential address as Northern Wairoa (Dargaville area), and Joyce's as Manchester. It would seem that Joyce and Janet arrived in New Zealand from England between February and September 1885. It is probable that the ship was the Doric. It left London on 10th July 1885 and arrived in Auckland on 3rd September 1885 - just a few days before Joyce married Frederick Lightoller. It was the same ship that Frederick had been on earlier in the year when he came to New Zealand. |
