Middleton's Parish Church of St Leonard dating from 1412 and 1524 has some of the oldest origins in the region and still boasts a timber spire. The church is also home to what is believed to be England's first war memorial window, commemorating the Battle of Flodden and the victory of the Middleton Archers in the year 1513.
