There is more than one Bolton in Lancashire. Bolton-le-Moors is the main one, nowadays referred to just as Bolton.

Bolton has one of the most expensive Town Halls in Britain - opened by the then Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) in 1873.

One of Bolton's most famous natives is Samuel Crompton, inventor of the Spinning Mule in 1779. This invention was to increase output in the textile industry five-fold within a decade, although Crompton sold the rights to it for £60.
