In 1848 Lambourne parish in Essex comprised several scattered houses near the church, but the chief part of its population was a mile to the west, in the village of Abridge, on the south side of the river Roding, 4 miles S. by E. of Epping, and on the London and Ongar road, 13 miles N.E. of the former, and 7 miles S.W. by S. of the latter town.
